Our very last post of this trip thru South America. It’s about Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires, then Uruguay: Colonia de Sacramento and Montevideo. To park Prado for the next months. Finally the flight back to Swizzyland in 1 of these sardine tins they call a plane.
The last days in Patagonia, Chiloé Island, and some tourist hotspots in Chile’s and Argentina’s Lake District. Then the long drive thru the Pampa to reach Mar del Plata on Argentina’s east coast. Finally to Tandil on the way to Buenos Aires.
The road trip from Cochrane to Chaitén on Chile’s famous Carretera Austral. Tiny villages, turquoise rivers, and lakes. Mountains with huge glaciers and ice fields.
The journey from Patagonia’s southernmost town Ushuaia northwards thru Tierra del Fuego, to the tourist hotspots of El Calafate and El Chaltén. After a visit to Glaciar Perito Moreno and a hike to Mt. Fitz Roy, on thru the pampa to Paso Roballo to Chile’s Carretera Austral.
An epic journey from the South Shetland Islands to the British Overseas Territory of South Georgia and back to Ushuaia in Argentina. A trip to see a unique eco-system and to experience the stormy sea of the South Atlantic.
After a long’n’tiring research, we found a way to continue our trip. Here our adventures on an epic journey further to the south. From Ushuaia to the South Shetland Islands and to Antarctica. For the very 1st time on a kind of a cruise.
We made it. On 11th December 22 we’ve arrived in Ushuaia. Thus, the trip come to its end after 10 years traveling thru Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Of course, that’s the moment of our big crisis. Unless we have an incredible idea how to extend our journey.

The ferry trip to South Patagonia. To the Region de Magallanes y de la Antárctica. 4 days on the boat. A fascinating trip thru the backwaters of Chile’s south coast.
A visit to the famous Lake District. From Villa Pehuenia to San Martin de Los Andes. The 7 Lakes route to Villa de Angostura. Crossing to Chile. To the tourist hotspot of Pucón t visit the nearby national parks.
From wine-induced urban life in Mendoza southwards on Ruta 40. Villages and small towns in the desert. Volcanic landscapes near Malargüe and finally on the way to Villa Pehuenia in the Lake District – another world.
We’re about to leave Atacama Desert. A visit to Chile’s most colourful’n’chaotic town: Valparaiso, on to its proud Capital Santiago, then over the Cordillera to Mendoza in Argentina. To taste some Malbec.
Entering the north of Chile to visit San Pedro de Atacama. Then the long and not too spectacular drive thru the Atacama Desert to reach the famous Elqui Valley. The center of Chile’s Pisco production.
Out of Uyuni to the formerly richest town in South America: Potosi. There a visit to 1 of the most infamous mines in the world. On to beautiful Tarija and to Argentina’s Tilcara.
Finally a new country: Bolivia. From Copacabana at Lake Titicaca thru the highland, passing La Paz and Oruro to reach Uyuni. Then a tour of 3 days to visit the salt flats and the desert towards the border with Chile.
A week in Perú’s Valle Sagrado. To visit some more sites of the Incas and other sights. Still in a tourist hotspot. Nevertheless, not as bad s Cusco or Machu Picchu.
The visit to the tourist hotspots Cusco and on to Machu Picchu. A journey thru a world somehow out of Perú.
About 2300km from Huaraz to Cusco, including our side trip to Nasca and the back road via Ayacucho. Some quite long drives, crossing the Cordillera several times, along the Pacific thru the Coastal Desert bypassing Perú’s capital Lima.
The visit to Perú’s most mountainous area. The tourist hotspot of Huaraz, Pastoruri Glaciar, Laguna Churup, the remote Callejón de Conchucos, and finally Laguna 69.
Some more historic stones, Perú’s most dangerous road, the country’s Coastal Desert, and the famous sites of Chan Chan. Then to the Cordillera Blanca.
The beautiful town of Cuenca, Parque Nacional Cajas, and the weird village of Vilcabamba. Then driving the Jungle Route to Perú. To the chaotic town of Jaen and on to Chachapoya. To visit the remains of the eponymous culture.
A trip to the infamous tourist trap of Baños, down to the Amazonian town of Puyo. Just to climb again to Riobamba and at 5000m to the mountain huts of Chimborazo. Finally southwards to the village of Alausi and the Inca ruins of Ingapirca.
On to central Ecuador’s highland. A short visit to the capital Quito, to the rainy paramó in Papallacta, Laguna de Quilotoa, and finally up to the Rifugio José Ribas at Volcán Cotopaxi. A trip mostly above 2800m elevation.
The Flight to Bogota, then on to Ipiales. to find Prado save’n’sound. On to the North of Ecuador: Ibarra and Otavalo
