We arrived in Nouakchott. Immediately they integrated us into their social system for traffic regulations. As far as we could understand many years ago the Mauries were no longer happy with the traffic regulations introduced by the former French colonists. The Government had no idea what to do. So they decided to move towards real democracy – at least for this issue.
They started a creativity competition among all drivers. The first prize would be a camel. Most participants remained in their tradition. They started driving their car similar to riding their camel. That’s ok; but what to do with those only having a goat or even worse only disposing of a chicken only.
Well, driving in Nouakchott is all about creativity, everyday new ideas are submitted to the competent Ministry. As they forgot to define the final day for idea submission the competition still is continuing.
