Our last days in Bulgaria: the Rila Monastery and Melnik, then off to Greece. Some lazy days in Halkidiki before heading to the west, to Igoumenitsa to catch the ferry to Ancona, and then on to cold’n’foggy Swizzyland for hibernation.
A trip thru a country that’s quite different and still much more influenced by the communist era than its neighbors. From laid-back rural landscapes and interesting towns and villages to Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital.
The trip thru Transylvania’s heartland. The fascinating towns of Sibiu, Brasov and a real Disneyland – Bran Castle. Then on to Bucharest, Romania’s grim capital.
An epic journey from northern Romania’s painted churches, thru the Carpathian Mountains, to finally reach the well-known Transylvanian region.
Thru Northeastern Hungary, then into to Romania’s remote and super traditional Maramures region. Such a different and way more interesting trip!
Finally, we’re back on another road trip with the van – this time heading to Southeast of Europe. A quick trip thru Austria, then on to Hungary. Lots of history here, but not exactly packed with real adventures.
A visit to the remnants of the grim past of French-German relations over the past 150 years. Some villages as kitschy as they come, and a visit to the birthplace of French Champagne.
2000 km thru Argentina’s Chaco/Pampa, from the Andes in the West to Puerto Iguazú in the northeastern part. Not really an impressive landscape, but still 1 or 2 interesting places along the way. Then back to Swizzyland.
Argentia’s Andean highland – the Puna – a fascinating landscape in the north of the country. Remote, wild, and often a little bit complicated to visit. More about it in this post.
The journey from Salta to the Valley of Calchaquíes. To the villages of Cachi and Cafayate. Then on to Santa Maria – the gateway to Argentina’s Puna.
