Many thanx for your feedback and remarks. Nevertheless, we were a little astonished how many of u could still spend some money for the annual leave. We sincerely thought all of you would contribute to safe the world’s economy and spend your money to balance the politicians’ escapades.
Be assured we’re not eaten by our trip thru Africa. At our age, we’re no longer tender enough for that.
Currently we’re sitting in a bamboo chair in a guest house near Fort Portal in Central Uganda with a view on tea gardens and a glass of beer in our hand – unfortunately Uganda is not really Rotten Grape Country and our last bottle of Nederburg Undrinkable Special Vintage we found at the village mini supermarket in Lilongwe, Malawi by now just is an empty bottle (for unknown reasons).

Nevertheless, since our last edition there is an enormous change: During edition 5 we were within the first half of our trip from Maseru to Laufenburg. The 6th edition attached covers the first part of the second and logically and unfortunately last part of this trip. This historic moment is definitely the right moment for some deeper reflections about life, love and eventually a new wife. To facilitate this rather complicated task, we simply try to go for some statistics:
- time spent up to now: 5 month, 17 days, 18 hours and 26 minutes
- time left: until beloved GIZ calls, latest 25th December when Martin has to think about a X-Mas present for his mother-in-law
- distance between Maseru and Laufenburg: 14 672.6 km according to our GPS
- distance driven so far: 26 046.2 km; proof that nowhere in the world the way from A to B is a straight line
- best adventure (up to now): here in Uganda; read more about it in the next newsletter … be patient, it’s just for a month
- worst experience – we had to leave Lesotho and food in Tanzania
- most beautiful girls – sorry, tell u when Monika is on the loo
- most interesting wine: Rwanda (see our current newsletter); of course not comparable to a real bottle of Lancerac Pinotage
- greatest change in no time: crossing the equator and switching from cold winter to hot, hot summer
- the country we would never visit after the current experience: Antarctica as before.
So far a few hard facts about our experiences during the last few months. We’ll complete it once we will arrive a little further north.
Please note that we did not update the Streetworker’s Barometer. The poor guys in Rwanda and up to now in Uganda are just in a desperate condition – probably they really are an endangered species. Therefore, and considering human rights, we will only give an update on this important Governance indicator once the situation improves.
This is also the place to apologize that we could not make it to Bujumbura. Sorry Uli, everybody discommended our initial plan to drive from Kigoma to Rwanda thru Burundi.
This is also the place to wish the former fellow travellers who have to go back to life’s hard reality in Durban all the best and to remind them there is a life beyond the company (at least some rumours claim that).
