A Rainy Night in the Desert; Erg Chebbi, Morocco

Later in the afternoon it started raining heavily. We met 3 Germans, father and 2 sons, who planned to have their night out in a tent in the dunes.

Logically for them they wanted to experience the hard life of nomads in the desert – at least for 1 night. They thought they might fed the nomad’s camel, drink the camel’s milk while resolving all problems of the world in discussion with the poor nomads, suffer the incredible heat in the desert during night and wake up with the 1^st cry of the nearby cock trying to maintain his families’ egg production.

Unfortunately, the camels had to return immediately after they have reached the bivouac to transport the next tour group. Instead of camel feeding the 3 guys were busy catching the all present flies annoying them constantly. Also logical because the camels were busy transporting some more tourists, the camel milk had to be replaced by some lousy tea. In the evening the nomads converted into 1^st class 3 star cooks. They put their prefab Tagines into the solar powered microwaves and served them with a bottle of reverse osmosis water. Unfortunately they had no time to solve the world’s problems as the nomads had to wash dishes.

Fortunately the tourists did not suffer to much the incredible heat of the desert, as it is winter and the weather is lousy – thus it was bitterly cold and rainy.

Finally, the stories about the extended sex life of the cock in the nomad’s permanent settlement could not be proofed. It seems the eggs were from the supermarket.

Next day we met the 3 guys again in the hotel. They were even more than happy that they were back to the hotel.

As the rain had not stopped the next day we decided not to convert into 1-night-nomads but to move on northwards. On one of those internet meteo-maps we could see a 50% probability of sun in Fes.
